Jacksonville Men’s Soccer dropped their first match of the season on Monday night, losing to the Wofford Terriers by a score of 3-2.

In the match, the Dolphins jumped out to a fast start when Moussa Sabaly cleaned up a cross from David Robinson for the opening goal in the fourth minute.

As the first half went on, JU’s momentum began to fade, and Wofford took more control of possession. In the 20th minute, the Terriers’ Nikolai Rojel broke through and leveled the game, slipping a shot by Dolphin keeper Jabari Gray on the righthand side.

No less than three minutes later Wofford would tally again, this time off of a great through ball from Nic Parker that was collected and slotted home, making the game 2-1 Terriers before the half.

Coming out of the half, Wofford jumped back out on attack notching two shots while forcing Gray to make a diving save on one. They would stay on the offensive, and in the 54th minute Rojel scored his second goal of the night, which would eventually prove to be the game winner.

Jacksonville’s Trey Demps would bring the ‘Phins back within one in the 70th minute, but they could not pull level in the final 20, and the game would end with the Terriers coming out on top by a score of 3-2.

Looking at the numbers from the match, Moussa Sabaly continued his fantastic start to the season by notching his fifth point (1G-2A), while Demps recorded his first tally of the 2022 campaign and his Dolphin career.

Jabari Gray received his second consecutive start of the season and made three saves in the match while playing in all 90 minutes.

The ‘Phins will now undergo a week of practice as they look to get back on track before heading to Nashville on Saturday, September 10, to battle Lipscomb at 8 pm EST.
