Cadets from St. Johns River State College (SJR State) Criminal Justice Academy were recently recognized during a graduation ceremony. Graduates representing Clay, Putnam, St. Johns and other counties received certificates for completing the corrections basic recruit and/or the crossover to corrections programs. The guest speaker was Tara Wilde, St. Johns County corrections division director.
The Florida Corrections Officer Academy career certificate program provides job-related training to prepare candidates for entry-level employment as corrections officers. The curriculum is prescribed by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission in accordance with Florida Statutes. Upon completion of the program, candidates will be eligible to take the state exam for corrections officer.
Graduates include Caleb Bryan, Dalton Cady, Brandon Corbin, Robert Drummond, Brittney Foster, Porfirio Gonzalez, William Jones, Jesse Lee, Christopher Mehl, Harold Payne III, Ricardo Socastro, Alana Tolbert and Corinthia Williams.
During the ceremony, cadets were recognized for special achievement.
The Highest Academic Achiever award went to Jesse Lee. The Medallion Award for highest overall achievement went to Christopher Mehl. The award for Most Proficient in Firearms went to Dalton Cady.
Located at the St. Augustine campus, SJR State’s Criminal Justice Academy offers certificate programs and provides job-related training to prepare cadets for entry-level employment in the field. Upon completion of the certificate programs, cadets will be eligible to take the state certification exam. The certificates also provide credit hours that can be transferred to SJR State’s associate in science degree in criminal justice technology.
