Bolles School issued the following announcement on Aug. 20.
Bolles alumnus Mac Jones ’17 has been named the Academic All-American of the Year by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The former quarterback for the University of Alabama led the Crimson Tide to national and SEC titles in the 2020 season, earning several individual accolades before becoming a first round draft pick of the New England Patriots. In the classroom, Jones earned both bachelor’s and master’s degree from Alabama, maintaining a 4.0 GPA throughout his four-year tenure. He is the fourth Crimson Tide student-athlete to earn the award that recognizes the top scholar-athlete in the nation regardless of sport or gender.
"It is an honor to be named the CoSIDA Academic All-American Team Member of the Year,” said Jones. “Being an Academic All-American is something I've always dreamed of and it has been a goal of mine for as long as I can remember. Through hard work and help from close family, friends, teachers and mentors, I have long understood the importance of school, learning and leadership. Thank you to everyone who helped me along my academic journey."
On the same day that he earned the award, Jones looked sharp in his second NFL preseason game for the Patriots, completing 13 of 19 pass attempts for 146 yards in a 35-0 win over the Eagles.
