Students Apply Bolles Way to 911 Lessons

1

Bolles School issued the following announcement on Sept. 9.

Students on the Bolles Middle School Bartram Campus have dedicated time and reflection to the September 11, 2001 attacks –  acts of terror that shook the country to its core 20 years ago this weekend.

In their advisory classrooms, students first watched  the 2017 film “Man in the Red Bandana.” The historical documentary shows how New York City equities trader and volunteer firefighter Welles Crowther, known to carry a red bandana as a handkerchief, saved many people working in the World Trade Center’s South Tower with his compassion, leadership and courage before he perished in the building collapse. Students were then asked to think about what they stand for and how Crowther’s actions and role model can apply to The Bolles Way: pursuing excellence through courage, integrity and compassion.

As a final part of the advisory lesson, students wrote their beliefs on strands of a red handkerchief to remain aware of the difference they can make in the lives of others when they act courageously and with compassion.
