Jacksonville University issued the following announcement on Sept. 30.
The Jacksonville women's soccer team (5-5-2, 0-3-0 ASUN) took a tough 2-0 loss on the road against ASUN opponent, Eastern Kentucky (5-6-0, 1-2-0 ASUN). Despite taking 11 shot attempts throughout the game and keeping a steady offense through the second half, the Dolphins would earn its fifth loss of the season.
The first five minutes of play were quiet, as neither team attempted a shot and the ball made its way evenly across the field. Breaking the silence, Eastern Kentucky took the first shot of the game at the six minute mark, followed by a shot by JU's Beyoncé Robinson three minutes later. Through the next 15 minutes of action, the Dolphins dominantly kept the ball on the Colonels side of the field. Suddenly, Eastern Kentucky was able to run away with the ball and find an open space in the goal to take a quick 1-0 lead at the 23 minute mark.
After scoring, the Colonels began to take control on offense. At the 25 minute mark, Eastern Kentucky achieved back-to-back shot attempts, one of which would be saved by Dolphins goalkeeper, Courtney Green. The Colonels repeated the same action a few minutes later while Green accumulated another save, and would hold JU to just one more shot attempt through the rest of the half.
JU returned to the field and began to step up its rhythm on offense. In the first 12 seconds of the half, Robinson attempted another shot followed by Shelby Brim, whose shot attempt would be saved by EKU's goalkeeper, Sabrina Hinz. The Colonels responded a few minutes later with a goal at the 64 minute mark, extending its lead to 2-0. Less than one minute later, Robinson and Alexys Nowak attempted back-to-back shots to put JU on the board, but both shots would ultimately go into the hands of the goalkeeper. About five minutes later, JU repeated the back-to-back shot attempts to pursue a chance to tie the game, but continued to remain unsuccessful in finding the back of the net.
The activity through the remainder of the match would mimic the silence of the opening five minutes, and EKU would walk off the field with two more shot attempts to close out the match.
Next, the Dolphins will compete against ASUN opponent, Bellarmine (2-3-5, 0-2-0 ASUN), in Lexington, Kentucky. The early afternoon contest is set for Sunday Oct. 3 at 11:00 a.m.
