Jacksonville University issued the following announcement on Oct. 12.

Macarena Aguilera completed a career week with a runner-up finish at the Edisto Island Invitational on Tuesday.

Jacksonville University women's golf came home fourth at The Plantation Course at Edisto, shooting a 54-hole team record 871.

Aguilera, a graduate transfer who battled injuries that limited her playing time the last few seasons, has put together her strongest stretch of golf in her collegiate career this fall, with this week in South Carolina as her best effort to date.

Her day nearly derailed early, as she made double bogey on her first hole. From there, she settled in, making birdie on her second hole, to kickstart a run of four birdies and four pars before she made the turn. She sank five more pars and two more birdies the rest of the way to shoot a 2-under 69 for the day, tying the lowest round of the year for a Dolphin and recording her second-lowest 18-hole score in her career.

Her total score of 210 is tied for the second-best 54-hole score in program history, and she became the 33rd JU women's golfer to shoot under-70.

Mawgan Vater was the next-best Dolphin on Tuesday, also carding her lowest round of the year, a 73. She made par or better on eight of her first nine holes, and finished the day with a pair of birdies and 12 pars overall. Casey Powell sank three birdies and 10 pars, Jenna Fonda had four birdies and Frantiska Lunackova had two birdies and 11 pars.

Competing as an individual, Laura Pasalodos had a pair of birdies as well as nine pars.

The Dolphins led the field in pars made, with 184 total for the week. Fonda was the best overall on Par-5s, shooting 5-under for the event on such holes. Aguilera made her hay on Par-3s, shooting 2-under, the second-lowest overall score, and was also 1-under on Par-4s.

The Dolphins new team score record bested the previous mark of 874, set just last month at the Sea Best Jacksonville Classic.

The team heads back out on the road later on this week to conclude the fall schedule, teeing off at the 44th Pat Bradley Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 16.
