Jacksonville University recently issued the following announcement.
The Jacksonville volleyball program dropped a four-set contest versus "River City Rumble" foe North Florida, Saturday evening inside Swisher Gymnasium.
Set One
The two programs traded points to begin the contest, however North Florida held a slim one-point margin over the Dolphins, 11-10. The Ospreys swung the momentum in its favor courtesy of a 9-2 run to extend their lead to eight, 20-12. Back-to-back Jacksonville points late in the frame trimmed the deficit to six, 23-17. However, North Florida followed with two consecutive points to win the opening set, 25-17.
Set Two
Holding a one-point edge over the Ospreys, 8-7, Jacksonville rattled off five-straight points to extend their lead to six, 13-7. However, just a few points later, North Florida utilized a 5-0 run of their own to tie the set at 15-all. After trading points back-and-forth, North Florida had set point late in the frame, 26-25. The Dolphins scored three consecutive points to win the contest's second set, 28-26.
Set Three
The Ospreys jumped out to an 7-5 edge over the Dolphins to begin the frame. North Florida would go on a 7-0 scoring run to stretch their lead to nine, 14-5. Jacksonville was unable to gain traction in the set, as North Florida would close the frame on a 6-2 run to win the third set, 25-14.
Set Four
Jacksonville stormed out to a 5-1 lead over North Florida early in the frame. After the Ospreys rattled off three-straight points, the Dolphins answered with a 4-0 run, leading 9-4. The Ospreys and Dolphins traded points on each side of the net, as Jacksonville held a two-point edge over North Florida, 23-21. However, the Ospreys would clinch the four-set victory taking the contest's final four points, winning the fourth and final set, 25-23.
Jacksonville was once again led on the attack by Jenna McNamara's 14 kills. Camryn Honn and Rebecca Rocassin recorded matching 22 assist performances in the effort. Kariana Ayala posted a team best 16 digs.
The Dolphins return to the court Friday evening, welcoming Liberty to Swisher Gymnasium.
