City of Green Cove Springs recently issued the following announcement.
Council Business
- Passage of Resolution No. R-33-2021 to Authorize the Non-Ad Valorem Assessment Program for Code Violation Abatement and Recovery of City Costs
This is the next step for the Non-Ad Valorem Assessment Program, which started as a discussion item during the Sept. 21, 2021, City Council meeting and was authorized by City Council on the Oct. 19, 2021, City Council meeting. This Resolution will begin the process of collecting City Nuisance abatement costs from property owners as a non-ad valorem special assessment on their annual property tax bills as incentive to correct any long-standing code enforcement violations on their property. After the Resolution is passed City Staff will amend its nuisance abatement ordinance and enter into an agreement with Clay County Property Appraiser for the program. City anticipates that the first Non-Ad Valorem Assessments will begin to appear on property tax bills in November 2022.
Resolution passed 4-0 by City Council, with City Council Member Connie Butler absent.
