Vandermoten surges to top-10 finish at ASUN Championship

Alexandre Vandermoten fired a final round 69 to finish T7 at the ASUN Men's Golf Championship at UGA Golf Course on Tuesday.

 

Jacksonville University men's golf came home fifth overall, with two total top-20 finishers, registering a top-10 individual finisher for the sixth consecutive conference championship.

 

Vandermoten improved each round over the course of the event, and saved his best round for last, climbing 13 spots on the final leaderboard. He entered the day as the field leader in pars for the week, but started his final round in the red, sinking consecutive birdies on his first two holes. After giving a stroke back on three, he made three straight pars, a birdie on the Par-5 seventh, and two more pars to both end his front-nine and start his back-nine. After a fourth birdie of the day on 12, he ended his round with five pars on his final six holes.

 

He finished the event with 40 total pars made, second-most in the field and was the Dolphins best scorer on Par-4 holes for the week. He registered his second-straightT7 finish at the conference championship.

 

Joseph Sullivan finished T18 after an adventurous back-nine. His day started quietly, with six pars and a birdie among his first nine. On the back, he started par-par and converted an eagle on the Par-5 twelfth, getting to 1-under on the day. From there he made consecutive double bogeys, before two birdies sandwiched around another double.

 

He ended the tournament as the field's best scorer on Par-5s, shooting a blistering 7-under on such holes. His 11 birdies were tied for the team-high, and he was one of only seven competitors to record an eagle over the three rounds.

 

Freshman Jack Neill finished T26 in his first conference championship. He steadied the ship after a pair of bogeys to start, making six pars and a birdie to close out his front nine. He added three more pars and an additional birdie on the back. He finished the week 3-under on Par-5s, with eight birdies overall, third-most on the team.

 

Josef Hacker shot his lowest round of the week, making his sole birdie of the day on hole one and sinking pars on all but four of his remaining holes in the round. His 34 total pars were the second-most on the team and tied for 10th in the field.

 

Filip Raza made seven pars and two birdies on the front nine, finishing his day with four birdies in total. He finished the week tied for the team-high with 11 birdies and an eagle, despite competing in only two rounds.

 

JU shot 19-under as a team on Par-5s, best in the field, and also led the event with two eagles made, to go with 159 pars and 42 birdies.
