Florida School of the Arts presents “Home Brew” local artists exhibit

Florida School of the Arts will present “Home Brew,” an invitational exhibition of artists with ties to Putnam County. The mixed media exhibit featuring still life and landscape paintings and drawings opens with a reception on Thursday, September 8 at 5:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

According to Sarah Alexander Bjorn, FloArts instructor and gallery director, the 2022-23 season of events will open with an exhibit featuring artists with local connections, showcasing the seemingly hidden talents of our region. The featured artists include: Auretha Callison, Michael Everett, Morgan Motes, Gene Roberds, Tiffany Sage and James White.

“I try to have a range of diverse works of art when choosing artists for our exhibitions, so that no one point of view or style is represented exclusively, but rather a diverse, rich range of subject matter, style and media are included in the shows throughout the year,” Bjorn said. “I feel it is important as an artist and curator to mirror our place and cultural times. We are living in a time of plural perspectives and points of view, so the importance of inclusion and openness to diverse ways of thinking, looking, and making cannot be understated.”

“This sample of mostly representational work,” Bjorn continued, “specifically Morgan Motes' paintings, asks the viewer to look at the landscape as a way to use it as a metaphor for the unknown, the wild, the subconscious, the terrifying and the beautiful.”
