Bishop Kenny High School is proud to announce that Alex Yalch, Class of 2023, has been named a National Merit Semifinalist in the 68th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. The 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program finalists will be confirmed in March 2023.
Alex maintains a rigorous academic schedule while maintaining a 4.5 GPA. He is a member of the English, Mu Alpha Theta, Rho Kappa, Science, Thespian and National Honor Societies. He is an active member of the BK Student Ambassadors, History, Science and Theatre Clubs, and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Alex is a member of Thespian Troupe 2411 and will be playing the tin man in the fall production of the Wizard of Oz at Bishop Kenny. He is actively involved in the greater Jacksonville community, accumulating over 310 service hours.
Alex said, “I like that BK has given me an opportunity to be involved in so many extracurricular activities. I truly felt welcome to try new things and was given the chance to embrace academics and the arts. I had no background in theater until my sophomore year at BK, and it quickly became my passion!” Alex would like to attend the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill majoring in environmental science with plans to pursue a higher-level degree.
Congratulations also are extended to seniors Alexander Bernich, Mikaela Georgi, Cooper Howe, Ian Kirsch, Anabel Macchi, Alyssa Malacaman, Emily Malzahn, Aidan Phillips, Joslyn Rill, William Wallace, Emily Wilson, and Doria Wright, who were also recognized as Commended Students in the National Merit program based upon their outstanding PSAT scores.
