Jacksonville University women's basketball program traveled South to play University of South Florida Bulls Sunday afternoon. JU falls 59-70.
Jacksonville came out hot in the first ten minutes of the game. The first three pointer from Shynia Jackson sparked momentum for the Dolphins. The Dolphins ended the first quarter 11-9. The Dolphins started off the second quarter slow only shooting 21% from the field. The Bulls led going into halftime 31-20.
In the third quarter both programs were scoring with ease. Two back-to-back three pointers for Jalisa Dunlap sparking a little run for the Dolphins. A layup from DeShari Graham cut the deficit to 14. South Florida continued to score in the paint ending the third quarter 49-37. In the final ten minutes of the game, two free throws from Tionna Carter cut the led to eight. Three from Graham and Zaria Blake put the Dolphins within range 47-53. In the final six minutes of the contest, the Bulls continued to score in the paint and from three. With two minutes remaining Shynia Jackson made another three-pointer, and a short jumper from Dunlap cut the lead to nine. Unfortunately, the Dolphins could not stop scoring in the paint. Jacksonville was without their leading rebounder KayKay Hayes the second half.
DeShari Graham led the pack with 13 points. Shynia Jackson had 11 points and Seraphine Bastin also added 11 points and 11 rebounds and 10 assists. Third most assist in a single game in program history.
The Dolphins return home to take on FIU November 19th at 1PM.
