St. Johns River State College will celebrate its fall commencement on December 15. The College will acknowledge the associate and baccalaureate degree candidates, as well as its certificate candidates, from the Orange Park, Palatka and St. Augustine campuses.
The ceremony is set for 10:00 a.m. at the Thrasher-Horne Center located on the SJR State Orange Park campus. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. Tickets are required for graduate guests and will be issued to the graduates. SJR State President Joe Pickens, J.D., has announced SJR State alumni and Palatka Police Department Chief Jason Shaw as the commencement speaker. Chief Shaw’s background includes 23 years with the police department and a strong commitment to community service. Chief Shaw has been the driving force that has helped light the path of possibilities between law enforcement and the community. Chief Shaw places tremendous value on public safety and community engagement. He has implemented a community-based, neighborhood-focused, preventive policing strategy that is data-driven and relies on problem solving and collaborative relationship building.
The Thrasher-Horne Center is owned and operated by SJR State and is located on the Orange Park campus at 283 College Drive.
