Upper School Students Kick Off Season of Giving

This December, upper school students are demonstrating The Bolles Way through fundraisers and volunteer opportunities organized by their respective clubs.

The Community Connections Club raised more than $200 to support the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind through a Chick-fil-A chicken biscuit fundraiser on December 1 during Activities. Sponsored by Upper School Science Department Chair Nancy Hazzard, the Community Connections Club is led by Veronica Sippens-Groenewegen ’24 and Wesley Smith ’24. The mission of the club is to spread awareness of those who engage with sensory awareness disabilities and to educate the community about the mission of the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind.

The Veterans Encouraging Teen Success (V.E.T.S.) Club also invited students to make a difference for patients at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Tampa, Florida, on December 1. Students convened in the Bent Center conference room during Activities to make colorful holiday cards for the veterans while enjoying festive music and snacks. Club President Katherine Asbury ’24 leads the organization, which aims to promote the emotional and financial support of U.S. veterans as well as inform anyone interested in military career paths. The V.E.T.S. Club is sponsored by upper school teachers Daniel Ferrari and Laura Lane.
