Rodrigues Records First Career Top-5 at Babs Steffens Invitational

Ivete Rodrigues of Jacksonville University women's golf finished T3 after a final round 70 in the Babs Steffens Invitational on Tuesday.

It was a career-best performance for the freshman from Azores, Portugal, recording her first career top-five after twice before coming home in the top-10 in tournaments.

She started the day well, and never slowed down from there. After a par to begin the morning, she birdied her second hole of the final round, and alternated pars and birdies over her first six of the day. She gave a few strokes back on her ninth and 13th holes, but closed the round with five pars and a final birdie of the day. Her score of even on Par-4s was good enough to lead the field for the week and her eight birdies was tied for fifth most overall.

Casey Powell finished 16th after a final round 73. She once again was consistent throughout the day, making par on her first five holes and wrapping up with eight straight to close out the event. In between, she mixed in a red number on her 10th hole of the day, the Par-3 17th. Her 38 pars led the team and was tied for seventh in the field.

Jenna Fonda shook off an up-and-down front nine to finish with pars on six of her last eight holes. Ashley Huffman had 10 pars and a birdie and Laura Pasalodos made five pars as well.

The team finished sixth in the 13-team field. JU is back in action in the Chattanooga Classic, starting on Sunday, April 2.
