Jacksonville University recently issued the following announcement.

The Jacksonville Men's Lacrosse team defeated Mercer, 21-12, Tuesday night at Memorial Stadium in Savannah, Ga.

Jacob Greiner and Max Waldbaum's matching five goal showings, paced the Dolphins (2-1) offensively. In total, 12 Dolphins found the goal column in the neutral-site triumph. Luke Millican stopped a game-high 14 saves between the pipes.

Sean Goldsmith's hat trick lead the Bears (1-3) in the defeat. Colin Kelly took the decision in goal for Mercer, stopping 10 shots in the effort.

Leading 4-3 entering the second quarter following Waldbaum's four goal first quarter, the Dolphins exploded with a 9-1 run to extend their lead to nine, 13-4, entering the halftime break.

After Jacksonville scored the third's first two goals, Mercer responded scoring four of the next five goals. However, the Dolphins still held a 16-8 advantage entering the night's final frame.

The Green and White would extend their lead to 12, their largest of the lead, at 21-9 to begin the fourth. The Bears would answer scoring the contest's final three goals, but it would not be enough as the Dolphins prevailed, 21-12.

Head Coach John Galloway's Comments

"Today was a unique challenge for us that we needed to handle with maturity and professionalism. While I am glad with the result, I do believe we allowed moments of the game to get away from us. I give a lot of credit to Mercer and their offensive pressure on us for 60 minutes. Their possessions at the X forced us into earning a lot of stops. We have alot of film to study and reflect on as we take this next step as a defense."

"As has been the case this season, we were led by our seniors. Colin Hinton, Dixon Smith, Jack Dolan, Jeremy Winston and Max Waldbaum kept the group focused on the task at hand. Coupled with a big night from Jacob Greiner and Millican, we were able to go deeper into the bench to get some valuable game experience. I hope those moments pay dividends as the season goes on."

"Our next challenge will be even greater on Saturday, but I am excited to get to defend our dirt in front of our home crowd. We only need everyone for that challenge."

Game Notes

- Jacksonville now leads the all-time series over the Bears, 10-2.

- Intrieri's five assists was a career-high for the freshman.

- Prior to the game, Waldbaum was named the SoCon Offensive Player of the Week, Inside Lacrosse Player of the Week and he was named to USILA's Team of the Week.
