Before winter break, Bolles upper school art teachers Tiffany Gonzalez and Lily Kuonen took AP 2D art, AP 3D art and honors art students on a field trip to visit local art galleries and connect with professional artists.

The 38 students first stopped by the Moving the Margins gallery, which is located in The Jessie in downtown Jacksonville. They visited with Roosevelt Watson III, the artist whose work was on display, and the gallery’s executive director Shawna Brooks, who taught them more about the prominent murals around The Jessie.

Next, the students went to the CoRK Arts District, a more-than-80,000-square-foot warehouse space centered around artist studios and galleries. Students met six artists in their studios: Crystal Floyd, Paul Ladnier, Princess Simpson Rashid, Weighed Sailor, Shaun Thurston and Tiffany Manning. They saw their works in progress and learned about being a professional artist. The students also viewed artworks on display from more than 60 artists who have studios in CoRK.
